The Wurzels Attic Records Canadian Releases

Record releases by The Wurzels outside the UK are poorly documented as this was something managed by EMI worldwide rather than something that the group themselves were able to control - so this may be a page that will be updated and expanded as more information becomes available!

So far it appears that Attic Records in Canada released 3 singles and 3 albums of Wurzels material - unless you can tell us more of course!

7" Vinyl Singles:

Three Wurzel singles were released in Canada in quick succession. Interestingly, instead of following the usual trend, Attic took the decision to include two tracks that hadn't been released in the 7" single format anywhere else in the world - namely 'Middle For Diddle' (B side of the second single) and 'Pheasant Plucker's Son' (B side of the third single). Both had previously appeared on LPs.

The first Canadian Wurzel single release was the same as the first UK single release - Combine Harvester b/w The Blackbird. It had the catalogue number AT139 with matrix AT139A and AT139B.

This single entered the Canadian Singles Country Music Chart on 22 January 1977 for 5 weeks, reaching number 23

It also entered the Canadian Singles Adult Contemporary Chart on 22 January 1977 for 9 weeks, reaching number 19.

The second single contained one track off the Combine Harvester album (Middle For Diddle) whilst the A side
(I Am A Cider Drinker) was the same as the UK single. It has the catalogue number AT151 with matrix AT-151-A-1 G-T and AT-151-B-1 G-T

This single entered the Canadian Singles Country Music Chart on 5 March 1977 for 7 weeks reaching number 32. It also entered the Canadian Singles Adult Contemporary Chart on 12 March 1977 for 13 weeks reaching number 11.

The third single contained two tracks off the 1977 album Golden Delicious - Morning Glory and Pheasant Plucker's Son. A minor error here assigns a publishing year of 1976 for side 2 - it was actually 1977.

12" Vinyl Album:

The Combine Harvester: LAT 1018

This album came in a sleeve very much the same as the UK versions although with different record and manufacturing credits, catalogue number etc. The sleeve, in common with Canadian LPs at this time, was not laminated and came in sturdy heavyweight card. The vinyl is identical to the UK release with the exception of an additional track on side 1 - I Am A Cider Drinker (taken from the UK single).

The record inner-sleeve for this release contains adverts for many Attic albums. Of interest is an advert for this album itself which also indicates its availability in cassette and 8-track formats.

12" Vinyl Album:

The Wurzels Are Scrumptious: LAT 1035

The Wurzels Are Scrumptious was the third and final Wurzels album to be released in Canada. It was again issued on the Attic label with the catalogue number LAT 1035.

The release order for Canada was slightly different to that in the UK and this album, which had been the first post-Adge release in the UK was the third release in Canada.
